2012 Porsche Boxster (Porsche 981) camouflage removed :Porsche Spy Shots

Porsche spy shots - Porsche 981

Our crafty spy photographer have managed to set lenses upon a completely undisguised 2012 Porsche Boxster S out and about in the light of day. With all of the vehicle’s camouflage removed, we can clearly see the body lines of the new convertible

As Porsche spy shots show, every body panel is new and it now has a bolder, more dramatic profile. At the rear, there are new LED equipped brake lights that wrap around the tail.

According to sources close to the project, the cabin gets inspiration from the new Porsche 911 – meaning clearer instruments and a boost in quality.

There are also bigger roll over hoops, and a more steeply raked windscreen – helping exaggerate this car’s “roadster” status.

Codenamed Porsche 981, the model we have spied is a sporty Boxster ‘S’, which gets huge 18-inch alloy wheels as standard – plus flared wheel arches, a more shapely body and deeper intakes to feed cool air to the rear mounted engine.

Porsche spy shots - Porsche 981Under the skin, there’s an all new platform, which is derived from the new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) and due for launch in November. Drivers can also expect new suspension, a wider track and a longer wheelbase.

Insiders have told Auto Express the 2012 Porsche Boxster S direct injection 3.4-litre flat six will be carried over to the new line-up but gets stop and start technology and new tuning to meet tougher emissions regulations.

However, time is being called on the old, 255bhp 2.9-litre six-cylinder engine. It will be replaced by a smaller turbocharged flat four-cylinder engine which produces around 270bhp but, crucially, less emissions.

Porsche is working hard to cut its carbon dioxide emissions so the 2012 Porsche Boxster will be lighter than the car it replaces thanks to the use of more aluminium. But the biggest change is likely to come with the engines.

Emphasis will also be placed on the firm’s seven-speed PDK gearbox which allows faster shifts than a manual, but also contributes to better fuel economy because of the better spread of ratios.

Originally tipped to appear at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, it’s thought the car will now make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2012, before going on sale in spring.

The new Porsche Cayman coupe follows in 2013.

Here are the Porsche Spy Shots that prove the new Porsche Cajun remains on target for a 2012 launch.

Auto Express can also confirm that a new hybrid-powered edition is under development, which will become the Stuttgart firm’s cleanest, most efficient model when it goes on sale in 2013.

Looking more like a heavily modified Q5, this prototype “mule” was snapped by our spy photographers as it left Porsche’s engineering department at the Nurburgring in Germany.

With a widened track, roll cage and blistered wheel arches, the newcomer certainly looks like it means business.

Although exact details are still scarce, the newcomer Compact Porsche SUV – Porsche Cajun is tipped to cost from £35,000 when it goes on sale.

Both three and five-door versions are expected, based on a bespoke chassis developed out of the one that underpins the Audi Q5.

Aiming to deliver a class leading on-road driving experience, the Porsche Cajun will have some ability off road.

However one source told us that engineers are currently spending more time lapping test tracks than dirt tracks, meaning the focusis very much on making the model live up to the firm’s legendary reputation for building great drivers’ cars.

Under the Porsche Cajun bonnet, Porsche is set to borrow heavily from Audi’s engine range. According to the latest speculation, it will be available with a 235 bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, plus a 180bhp 2.0-litre diesel.

Flagship Porsche Cajun S models will get a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with at least 300bhp, while Porsche is reported to be considering an upmarket diesel edition too, with a 3.0-litre V6 offering 265bhp.

A hybrid Porsche Cajun model powered by a 178 bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine and 44bhp electric engine is also under development.

The electric motor is powered by a high performance lithium-ion battery, and it’s thought the car will offer some sort of plug in function, allowing limited electric only running.

2012 Porsche Panamera Facelift :Porsche Spy shots

2012 Porsche Panamera Facelift

It seems like just yesterday that we were scratching our heads over the Porsche Panamera’s ungainly four-door proportions. Now, after the Porsche-branded sports sedan/four-door coupe has been on the market for two years, the design has grown on us and we no longer find ourselves holding back our gag reflexes. With the car now approaching middle age, it’s time for Porsche to start working on a refresh. And who was on the scene to capture the first shots of the facelifted four-door Porsche? None other than our trusty spy photographer, of course.

Cleverly-placed bodywork helps disguise this Porsche Panamera test mule as the current model. We might almost be fooled, except this car’s headlights look much rounder – possibly hinting at a new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) influence. From the A-pillar back, things look pretty much business as usual, though our source suggests this is an early prototype.

This test mule appears to wear the larger 15.35-inch front brakes of the Turbo and Turbo S model, which might mean this is a Turbo model, but could also point to a brake upgrade across the entire Porsche Panamera lineup. The rear taillights and valance don’t look much different from the current model, but you can likely expect a few minor changes to appear when the car finally breaks cover, possibly sometime in the coming auto show season.

New Porsche Boxster (Porsche 981) in heavy LA traffic :Porsche Spy shots

New Porsche Boxster (Porsche 981)We’ve seen new Porsche Boxster (Porche 981) running at the Nürburgring; now we’ve caught the new Porsche Boxster Prototype testing stateside. Spotted in heavy LA traffic, these two disguised new Porsche Boxsters show subtle but significant differences from the current car. More shapely and aggressive bodywork at the rear is apparent, along with a new taillight design. Also notable, the decklid has gone from two pieces (with a panel each for the convertible top and the trunk) to a clean, single piece of sheet metal. We’ll look forward to seeing how the new design integrates with the convertible top. The front of the car shows some Porsche 911 influence, with bigger vents and shorter overhangs, but I had a tough time getting a shot of the nose from my moving motorcycle…might have had something to do with my thick gloves! If this new Porsche Boxster (Porche 981) does not make a surprise debut at the Frankfurt show in September, perhaps we’ll see it on the stand at Geneva early next year.

Porsche Spy video – New Porsche Cayman on the Nurburgring race track

Porsche Spy ShotsIn just a month’s time Porsche is set to take the wraps off its brand new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991), but shortly after the automaker from Stuttgart will also introduce new-generations of the Porsche Boxster and its Porsche Cayman sibling.

Like most models in Porsche’s lineup, the new Porsche Boxster and new Porsche Cayman are only due for some minor styling revisions, but under the skin things will be revamped completely.

Here we have a Porsche Spy video of a prototype for the new Porsche Cayman as it runs up some test miles on the Nurburgring race track in Germany, and on some of the surrounding roads.

One of the biggest changes for the new Porsche Boxster and new Porsche Cayman will be the introduction of turbocharged four-cylinder engines in place of the naturally aspirated six-cylinder units found in the outgoing models. Nevertheless, peak output from the smaller engines should match the horsepower figures of the ones they replace.

For more details on the new Porsche Cayman, including additional spy shots, click here for our more in-depth report. And for information on the new Porsche Boxster, click here.

Look for a reveal of the new Porsche Cayman in the second half of next year. Until then, enjoy this exclusive Porsche spy video.
