Porsche Spy video – New Porsche Cayman on the Nurburgring race track

  • New Porsche Cayman

Porsche Spy ShotsIn just a month’s time Porsche is set to take the wraps off its brand new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991), but shortly after the automaker from Stuttgart will also introduce new-generations of the Porsche Boxster and its Porsche Cayman sibling.

Like most models in Porsche’s lineup, the new Porsche Boxster and new Porsche Cayman are only due for some minor styling revisions, but under the skin things will be revamped completely.

Here we have a Porsche Spy video of a prototype for the new Porsche Cayman as it runs up some test miles on the Nurburgring race track in Germany, and on some of the surrounding roads.

One of the biggest changes for the new Porsche Boxster and new Porsche Cayman will be the introduction of turbocharged four-cylinder engines in place of the naturally aspirated six-cylinder units found in the outgoing models. Nevertheless, peak output from the smaller engines should match the horsepower figures of the ones they replace.

For more details on the new Porsche Cayman, including additional spy shots, click here for our more in-depth report. And for information on the new Porsche Boxster, click here.

Look for a reveal of the new Porsche Cayman in the second half of next year. Until then, enjoy this exclusive Porsche spy video.

  • New Porsche 911 Carrera S (Porsche 991)

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S (Porsche 991)Gumo, a GTspirit forum member, spotted a barely disguised 2012 new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) Carrera S prototype at a petrol station in Stuttgart today.

The Porsche video below shows the sports car starting up and driving away from the petrol station and a traffic light. The exhaust of the 3.8 liter flat six engine sounds a bit boring and isn’t really different from any contemporary Porsche 997 Carrera S. The electronic roof and the rear braking light between the openings in the engine cover are easily visible.

The new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

  • New Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car unveiled

2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup CarPorsche has revealed what will be the last incarnation of the ’Porsche 997′ Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car before it makes way for the  new Porsche 911 ’Porsche 991′ which will hit our showrooms next year. However, this Cup car will get a stay of execution, with Porsche offering it for competition use in the 2012 and 2013 race seasons.

Endurance racers will benefit from the addition of the car’s new 100-litre FT3 safety fuel tank, which feeds an engine with a near-identical specification to the unit found in Porsche’s GT3 RS road car, namely a 3.8L naturally-aspirated six cylinder – good for 450 hp.

2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup CarDrivers taking part in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which supports the Formula 1 circus, will be offered the luxury of Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). This lightweight option is also available on the RS road cars (for around €6,000), and helps to shed 20 kilograms from the car’s weight when substituted for the composite cast brakes found on Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge cars.

The price is € 161,750 – before taxes.

Porsche Spy shots: 2013 New Porsche 911

Our trusty Teamspeed spies caught the new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) turbo convertible testing this morning on German roads but unfortunately a truck kept getting in the way so we only have these three images for now. This new Porsche 911 turbo, with it’s aggressive stance, screams for high speed and sunshine! Output of about 550 horsepower is expected and all other technical aspects will carry over from the coupe variant spied last week. The 2013 turbo will feature the all new 7-Speed manual transmission and of course the fantastic optional PDK. Interesting to notice is the Panamera/Cayenne style quad tip exhaust set up here. We expect the car to make its official debut in summer 2012.

New Porsche 911 Spied Again

  • New Porsche 911 Spied Again

2012 new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) Spy shot Rear angle side viewWe’ve spied new Porsche 911 as high up the range as the Turbo and we’ve even ridden in a mule with the engineers. But when can you finally see the darn thing without all the black cladding? You can see the darn thing right now.

Okay, so the view of the yellow car is still vaguely distorted by the car version of one of those plastic masks basketball players wear to protect broken noses, but it is at least clear, and between it and the optical illusion at the front of the blue new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) seen here, you should have a solid idea of how the car’s details look: familiar. Aside from a set of grille openings that now look more akin to those of the Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman and a hood-and-headlight combo that’s a little more serious, there’s not much about the car’s face that’ll upset the traditionalists.

The same goes for the side profile, despite the fact that the new car sits on a wheelbase that’s 4.0 inches longer. The designers, it seems, have paid special attention to preserving the iconic proportions of the Porsche 911. Only one new wheel design is represented among the two cars, but at least it’s a good one. You’ll also notice rear windows with or without the wiper option.

2012 new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) Spy shot Front angle viewIt’s out back where all the controversy will be stirred. The changes might seem mild by typical standards, but as far as 911s go, they are fairly revolutionary. Actually, in the way the decklid now cuts off flush with the top of the taillights, it’s more retro than anything, a reference perhaps back to every model before the 996. Alongside other contemporary designs, however, it’s hard to look past the cut lines having a more hunchbacked Aston Martin look. And those taillights are the sleekest things Porsche has ever made this side of the Porsche 918 Spyder concept, from which they do seem to draw inspiration. We like the updates, but know they’ll take some time to find love in some circles. Plus, we still haven’t seen an uncovered interior. Hopefully soon, our spies will infiltrate even deeper. Or perhaps Porsche could just show the thing officially, already.
