New Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) in the Arctic Circle :Porsche Test

2012 New Porsche-911 (Porsche991) in winterAs we approach the new Porsche 911 official debut next month, Porsche has released this video of the new Porsche 911, known as the Porsche 991, undergoing cold-weather testing. This Porsche video shows engineers putting the new Porsche 911 through its paces in the Arctic Circle in temperatures as chilly as -24ºF.

Sound like a fruitless exercise for a sports car? Think again. Such testing procedures are essential to ensure the Porsche will operate as intended in every climate, otherwise Porsche 911 owners in snowy climes could find themselves stranded. It’s not all hard work, though: the video reveals that Porsche engineers also spent plenty of time drifting the new Porsche 911 sideways in densely packed snow.

As we saw in the leaked images, the new Porsche  911 has a profile that is elongated compared to the current car, LED running lights in the front bumper, shrunken LED taillight designs, and a raised center stack that resembles that of the Porsche Panamera.

The Porsche 991-generation 911 makes its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Until then, check out the video below for an early peek at the new sports car.

Here it is, folks: the all – new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991). Like nearly every Porsche 911 that came before it, the iconic coupe’s design has not changed too much, keeping the line’s classic styling and proportions intact. Aside from some new LED running lamps and revised air intakes up front and some thinner taillights out back, the 2012 new Porsche 911 model is extremely similar to the 997 Porsche 911 currently out on the road.

The big changes, though, are more than skin-deep. The new Porsche 911 (Porsche 991) is about two inches longer than the current Porsche 911, and features revised six-cylinder engines. The base Carrera now uses a 3.4-liter direct-injected flat-six, producing 350 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the Carrera S will use a direct-injected 3.8-liter unit, delivering 400 hp. Both engines will be mated to a seven-speed manual (yes, we said it) or PDK dual-clutch transmission, either of which can be had with launch control.

Inside, the new Porsche 911‘s cabin uses a design borrowed from the Porsche Panamera, with a more pronounced, downward-sloping center console. Like the exterior, nothing radical has been done to the car’s innards, and that’s just fine with us.

We’ll have the official details in the coming weeks in anticipation of the new Porsche  911‘s (Porsche 991) official debut at theFrankfurt Motor Show.

New Porsche Boxster (Porsche 981) in heavy LA traffic :Porsche Spy shots

New Porsche Boxster (Porsche 981)We’ve seen new Porsche Boxster (Porche 981) running at the Nürburgring; now we’ve caught the new Porsche Boxster Prototype testing stateside. Spotted in heavy LA traffic, these two disguised new Porsche Boxsters show subtle but significant differences from the current car. More shapely and aggressive bodywork at the rear is apparent, along with a new taillight design. Also notable, the decklid has gone from two pieces (with a panel each for the convertible top and the trunk) to a clean, single piece of sheet metal. We’ll look forward to seeing how the new design integrates with the convertible top. The front of the car shows some Porsche 911 influence, with bigger vents and shorter overhangs, but I had a tough time getting a shot of the nose from my moving motorcycle…might have had something to do with my thick gloves! If this new Porsche Boxster (Porche 981) does not make a surprise debut at the Frankfurt show in September, perhaps we’ll see it on the stand at Geneva early next year.
