The all-new 2013 Porsche Cayman will be unveiled at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show 2012 that starts in late November, reports Automotive News.
We reached out to Porsche but a spokesman told us that it had “No comment,” regarding the 2013 Porsche Cayman.

Porsche spy shotThough details are slim at this point, the 2013 Porsche Cayman will look like a hardtop version of the Porsche Boxster convertible. Outside the 2013 Porsche Cayman will get new bodywork all around, likely including the Boxster’s taillight-integrated spoiler (shown at right), while inside it’ll get more upscale with an interior reminiscent of the Porsche Panamera.

Under the hood, the 2013 Porsche  Cayman will get the Porsche Boxster’s new 2.7-liter F-6, likely producing 275 hp, compared to the Boxster’s 265 hp. The 2013 Porsche Cayman S will keep the 3.4-liter F-6, but will produce about 330 hp. Transmission options will be limited to a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch PDK. Expect EPA-rated fuel economy to mirror the numbers of the 2013 Porsche Boxster, from around 20/28 mpg city/highway for a Porsche Cayman S with the six-speed manual transmission to about 22/32 mpg for a base Cayman with the dual-clutch transmission.

The new 2013 Porsche Cayman will follow the Boxster’s lead by riding on a new 991-based chassis, that’s longer and wider than the outgoing Porsche Cayman. Expect a Cayman and Cayman S at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2012 debut, with a track-focused Porsche Cayman R to follow.

Porsche Crash: Car Girl and Porsche 911 Turbo drives into a gas station

Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche Crash: Mistaking the brake pedal for the accelerator is a problem often associated with the elderly who seem to slowly lose some of their procedural skills due to age. That being said, this mistake is also prevalent in females who account for double of all accidents caused by making this simple and forgivable mistake when compared to men.

We have no idea why this occurs, but an interesting case has just come out of Turkey, where a young woman crashed her spectacular white Porsche 911 Turbo into a gas station after accidentally applying the throttle instead of the brake when turning in to fill up at the station.

As you’ll soon see from the attached video, the woman crashed into a black car before crashing through the gas station, plowing through the aisles of products and almost coming out the other side of station.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is so fast that the driver may have only floored the gas pedal for 1 to 2 seconds, and the car would have already been traveling 30 or 40 mph before it even entered the station.

Fortunately, the driver and her passenger were not injured in the incident although an employee at the gas station was admitted to hospital with minor injuries.

Celebrity Car: Porsche couldn’t have had a better round of publicity today than Lindsay Lohan’s Porsche crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, Calif. Despite a lot of damage to the car, she not only walked away after a brief emergency-room exam, she went back to work on a movie set.

Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis said there was no sign Lohan was driving while impaired and that his agency would continue to investigate who was at fault in the wreck. The truck’s driver was uninjured and that driver also showed no signs of driving under the influence, Lewis said.

“We’re treating this as a regular accident,” Lewis said.

The accident at around 11:40 a.m. Friday on the Pacific Coast Highway occurred while Lohan was on her way to film scenes for the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick,” which chronicles the love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Lohan’s publicist Steve Honig said the actress was released about two hours after the accident and was returned to the set to continue filming.

“Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident,” he wrote in an email.

Lohan was driving with her assistant, who police said was not seriously injured.

The car appears to be a new Porsche 911, and it sustained heavy front-end damage, with most of it on the passenger’s side, judging from photos of the accident.

In introducing the latest version of the Porsche 911 last year, Porsche said the new Porsche 911 got its latest safety improvements. For instance, the latest version of the Porsche 911 comes with six airbags that protect both for head-on crashes or an offset crash, like the one in Lohan’s case.

The body of the car is extensively made of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel, Porsche sways.

“Particular attention was paid in designing and engineering the junctions of the A-pillars (the struts on either side of the windshield that support the roof) and the roof frame, as well as the safety structure involved in head-on and offset collisions,” Porsche said. The car was designed to transfer those forces around the doors to the rear of the car, skipping the passenger compartment.

In addition, a crossbar at the front of the car is made from high-strength steel to make sure it doesn’t intrude into the footwell area of the passenger compartment.
